I read in Danielle Packer's article on Platypus Landcare in Sydney’s Hills Shire about how they used an innovative new technology called environmental DNA (eDNA) to discover that they have a small platypus population in their catchment. Platypus are very elusive and secretive animals making them very difficult to observe, so this eDNA technology is a significant breakthrough! I also see from another article that eDNA can be used to detect the presence of not just native species, but also invasive pest fish in our river systems.

Does anyone know of any other discoveries like these that have been made with eDNA? Or could eDNA potentially be used to make discoveries in your area?
