Healthy Rivers, Healthy Communities, Healthy Environment

I am a bushie and, like most Australians, we lived close to several beautiful rivers. They were great for picnics, fishing and swimming and provide entertainment when a fresh comes down.

I received a Maths / AI degree from UNE and this was my passport to Europe for 2 decades. Living in Nederland, I caught the Dutch passion for a maths-approach to water topics.

Returning to Australia, I set up a micro IT consultancy with a trading name Australian River Deltas. I achieved local and perhaps international success with my efforts to make our sewerage system more efficient. The initial result was that we replaced all 12L single flush toilets with 4L dual flush ones.

I studied how Water Law and Governance work internationally and wrote to the Government suggesting that we put our rivers into the Constitution. The No-reply was followed by some States putting Water into the preambles they were already working on.

Currently I am advocating to restore traditional practice of releasing water from lagoons onto the land during the Dry. This practice is documented in the book ‘We of the Never Never’ and in other places. It is the most effective way to restrict the scale of bush fires.

I am also promoting Aussie River poetry following the splendid example of several other countries. There is a lot of worthwhile work to do.

PS: The photo shows me discussing the importance of Maths education. I have a Wattle flower in my pocket for my students and I am totally independent of all political parties.
