Farmers for Climate Action launches Climate Smart Farming Toolkit at sold-out EvokeAg event

  • Climate Smart Farming Toolkit to be launched
  •  Toolkit brings together practical guides, case studies and expert insights across methane intensity reduction, herd productivity, Indigenous land management partnerships and more
  • Some 56% of farmers in FCA’s recent Agricultural Insights Study asked for climate-smart case studies

Farmers for Climate Action will launch its Climate Smart Farming Toolkit at EvokeAg today, as repeat fires like those in Victoria and flooding like that in Western Australia, continue to smash farmers with little recovery time between disasters. Damage caused by climate change, driven by burning fossil fuels, is hurting farmers and farm families across regional Australia right now.

The refreshed Toolkit responds directly to what farmers have said they need to support climate-smart change and on-farm decision-making.

Farmers are leading as they navigate a changing climate, working to protect their farms and Australia’s food supply by adopting climate-smart solutions that build both profitability and resilience.

The Toolkit brings together practical guides, case studies and expert insights across renewable energy, methane intensity reduction, herd productivity and Indigenous land management partnerships. It features contributions from leading farmers, consultants and industry specialists working on climate-smart solutions across Australia.

Enabled by the NAB Foundation, the refreshed Toolkit focuses on five core areas including methane and genetics, large-scale renewables, tools and calculators, and First Nations wisdom. It takes a solutions lens, amplifies the farmer voice, and connects farmers to real on-farm stories backed by data and evidence.

Producer and Industry Development Adviser at Farmers for Climate Action, Ellen Litchfield, said launching the Toolkit at EvokeAg was a natural fit.

“FCA are thrilled to launch our Climate Smart Farming Toolkit at EvokeAg because it is a premier event bringing together solutions focused entrepreneurs, investors and farmers,” Mrs Litchfield said.

“In Australia our farmers lead the way on climate smart ag and as conditions become more extreme we are seeing amazing ways that they innovate and adapt.. At FCA we want to put them in the spotlight and showcase the amazing work they are doing.”

With repeat fires and floods hurting farmers more every year, Australia must achieve deep emissions reductions this decade. While farmers are already leading, fossil fuel and energy companies, banks, financiers and industry bodies must match the scale and urgency of the challenge.

FCA’s role is to bring farmers together, build a shared understanding of available options, and support farming businesses to remain profitable while protecting rural livelihoods in a changing climate.

Recent research from Farmers For Climate Action’s Agricultural Insights Study found:

  • 59% of farmers identified practical on-farm demonstrations as a top knowledge need
  • 56% want case studies and success stories from similar agro-climatic zones
  • Many emphasised a preference to “use farmers to educate other farmers”
  • Building understanding of sustainable agriculture practices and the ability to interpret environmental data were also identified as key priorities.
