Harwoods Common

HARWOODS COMMON SCENE OF MILD COMMOTION

New Years Eve was celebrated with controlled elation by about 30 or more local Castle Forbes Bay residents at "Harwoods Common". Harwoods Common is an area between Harwoods Rd and Castle Forbes Rd which is being reclaimed by the CFB Landcare Group from decades of neglect — crack willow, blackberries, rubbish, etc — and turned into a community asset suitable for an excited gathering to welcome in the New Year.

As a special concession, in recognition of the effects of climate change on vulnerable pacific Islands, CFB clocks were moved forward to coincide with time on Kiribati – where "New Year" is celebrated first. So at EST 9:30 Auld Lang Syne was heartily sung and sincere (hopeful or hopeless?) resolutions were secretly attested.

A jolly buzz permeated through the group of new and established residents. Following subdued Christmas celebrations here over the last couple of years, this event certainly lived up to expectations with attendees astounded at the beauty and serenity of the "Common" . It is planned to have even more adventurous activities here as the area is continually improved - including the competitive yet convivial, CFB badminton tournaments.

Let us all make this year better than the last.
