Supporting the resilience of the Granite Belt community is a key focus of the Southern Queensland and Northern New South Wales (SQNNSW) Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub’s Stanthorpe-based Node , which was officially launched this week (November 15, 2022). The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment has completed a review of Phase 2 of the National Landcare Program (NLP) by examining the effectiveness of the program against its intended outcomes. Phase 2 of the NLP involves a $1.1 billion investment over five years, from 2018-19 to 2022-23. The review has been conducted in consultation with regional NRM organisations, Landcare groups, farmer groups, industry bodies, Indigenous groups and research providers. A partnership between Landcare Australia and Hawke’s Brewing Co. will see a percentage of profits from beer sales go towards funding on-ground projects. Mr Hawke’s involvement with Landcare is well known. The hotly anticipated winner of the 2016 Bob Hawke Landcare Award was announced on 22 September, at the National Landcare Awards in Melbourne, with the prestigious honour going to Queensland conservationist and farmer, Stephen Burgess. The award comes with a $50,000 prize for Steve to further develop his knowledge and skills in Landcare and sustainable land management practices.
