    It's Coastcare Week! πŸŒŠ 
    From the 5th - 11th of December, join Australians across the country in celebrating the important work being done to improve and protect our coastal and marine environments. 

    While we highlight the amazing environmental feats of various Coastcare groups (like the Larrakia Land and Sea Rangers removing 295 bags/1.8 tonnes of rubbish in the Darwin Harbour Clean-Up!), it's the perfect opportunity for local communities to get involved in caring for our coasts - especially the kiddies! 

    So for this #CoastcareWeek22 , get active outside with this list of family-friendly Coastcare themed activities:

    Virtual Reality Ocean Explorers @ Boondall, QLD - Dec 6th 10am-11am (Ages 7-12)
    Explore the oceans in VR! Join us on a journey below the surface to learn about the ocean's amazing wildlife and how we can help protect their environment. A fun, play-based lesson involving a series of fun activities, with VR and without, kids will have fun discovering the oceans amazing creatures! Read more

    Nature Play Magic by the Beach @ Mount Eliza, VIC - Dec 9th 11am-2pm  (Ages 5-13)
    Playing in nature, creating gorgeous mandalah's with found objects and a sprinkle of sacred geometry, connect with the fae! A nature home school adventure for younglings, the kids with connect with nature and magic for an exciting day outside connecting to the land. Read more

    NaturallyGC Birds of the Broadwater Spotting Field Trip @ Main Beach, QLD - Dec 10th 7:30am-9am  (Ages 12+)

    Join us on board a Hopo vessel as we cruise down the Broadwater in search of local and migratory bird species. We will travel past the banks of Curlew Island and Wave Break Island, important roosting and feeding sites for listed migratory shorebirds, while Todd Burrows (Bird Expert) provides informative commentary and assistance with bird identification.     Creatures of the Creek Wildlife Show @ Pacific Pines, QLD - Dec 10th 11:50am-12:50am (All Ages)
    During this Creatures of the Creek presentation, kids will meet a variety of local native animals that live near our creeks. Learn why it's so important to keep our creeks clean and how you can help make a difference! Read more

    Beach Safety Sessions @ Werribee South Beach, VIC - Dec 10th 1pm-4pm (Ages 12+)
    A free, three-hour water safety program for those who live, study, work or recreate in Wyndham. Try a number of fun activities, including a water safety talk, lifejackets, rescues, board paddling and beach games! Read more


    Citizen Science - Seagrass Monitoring @ Labrador, QLD - Dec 10th 2:30pm-4:30pm  (Ages 16+)

    Join our Ocean Connect marine science team on their fortnightly seagrass survey to actively monitor the status and trends in seagrass conditions around the Gold Coast. Participants will be trained in internationally standardized and recognized Seagrass-Watch training and will be briefed on seagrasses ecology, importance and threats before the session. Read more

    Ocean Action Pod @ Freshwater's Ocean Festival, NSW - Dec 11th 9am-4pm (All Ages)
    The Ocean Action Pod is a pop-up multimedia educational experience that has been created by the Total Environment Centre to engage both adults and children with the growing problem of plastic pollution. No registration is required. Read more

    Ocean Health LIVE Virtual Excursion - Dec 7th 2pm-3pm  (All Ages)
    To celebrate Coast Care Week, join presenters from the Australian National Maritime Museum and Seabin as we explore the Ocean Health Lab and get a close up look at some of the plastic that ends up in our waterways. Take a tour of the lab and chat to the scientists to discover what they are doing to fight against plastic pollution. Read more

    Mind Nature Break LIVE Virtual Excursion - Dec 8th 2pm-3pm  (All Ages)
    Create calm and reduce stress in the classroom through a relaxing virtual trip to the sea. Inspire positive action to care for our precious coastal resources. Presented by a trained, experienced nature educator and forest therapy guide students will be encouraged to: foster a deeper awareness; enrich their natural curiosity, empathy, and other important human qualities; and be encouraged to reflect and use the experience to form a strong respect and connection to nature.     Deep Blue Oceans LIVE Virtual Excursion - Dec 9th 2pm-3pm  (All Ages)

    Dive into the science of the sea during Coastcare Week. Explore the physical factors that determine life underwater and along our coastlines! What drives ocean acidification and its effect on coral. How do heat and salt drive our ocean currents? How do whales and dolphins use echolocation to locate prey? Why do light wavelengths & intensity change as you go deeper and what does this mean for organisms? All these questions, plus more, will be answered! Read more
