  • 1.  National Landcare Conference 2022

    Posted 09-08-2022 14:16

    Peter and I are heading to the Sydney National Landcare Conference on August 23rd – 25th. It will be the largest knowledge sharing convention for people involved in landcare activities around Australia for 2022. It seems particularly poignant after the release of the State of the Environment Report which was depressing for the whole of Australia. Some of the questions we are hoping to gain information on are;

    •  How do we reduce 'ecology blindness' in mainstream Australian society?
    • How do we bridge the enormous knowledge gap between urban and rural communities about current land management practises across Australia?
    • Should govt./community have regional think tanks to strategically determine which landuse will occur in which zone?
    • Is it time to phase out the concept of 'land-owner' and replace these words with 'land-custodian'?
    • 'Ego and greed'. How do we increase social responsibility

    @Sylvia Leighton - How are you finding the conference so far?  Off to a great start with Prof Mark Howden's keynote, right?

    The conference has been fantastic thus far.  I was really impressed with the awards night and the brilliant stories of achievement across the country.  It's terrific to see so many people being recognised for the work they're doing.  I'm hoping this platform and the resources within it will enable these great projects to be deployed more widely by more communities.  Thanks for getting it rolling!!!

    What a great question -  Is it time to phase out the concept of 'land-owner' and replace these words with 'land-custodian'?  Really love the thoughtful questions you centered on when going to the conference.
