    HI LANDCARERS,

Central West Lachlan Landcare are once again working with Parkes Shire Council to deliver National Tree Day activities on Sunday, 30 July.

This year we head back to Akuna Road for planting near the new Akuna Wetland. During the morning we will have an opportunity to hear from Parkes Shire Council's Biosecurity and Environmental Coordinator Michael Chambers regarding the Wetland project and get a better understanding of how the wetland will function to create a space that will replicate natural wetland conditions.

Parkes Shire Council intends that this project will redevelop Parkes' former Sewage Treatment Plant maturation ponds into the Parkes Wetlands; a high-value, hydrologically complex wetland, capable of supporting a diverse range of native fauna and flora.

Akuna Road has benefited from many of our National Tree Day plantings over the last six years, with trees that I remember planting with 3rd Parkes Scouts and so many volunteers over those years now looking amazing.

Our plantings work in with the naturally occurring Fuzzy Box species that occur in the area surrounding Akuna Road.

Make sure that you take the time to find out about what you are planting and how it might contribute in the long term to the environment at Akuna Road.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, plant a tree or shrub, create some memories and meet new people.

We kick off at 10am and we will be cranking up the barbecue for lunch, so we would really appreciate registrations via the Planet Ark website.

Every year Planet Ark undertakes research for National Tree Day, with the key objective of inspiring people to spend time in nature.

This year's research looks at Australians attitudes towards technology and the role it can play in enhancing time spent in nature.

From the research we found Australians spend just three per cent of their week in nature, yet almost three hours a day on their phones, primarily on social media.

Forbes National Tree Day will be held on Saturday, 29 July from 10am at the BMX track.

Find out more details via our social media or the Planet Ark website.

If you can't register online, drop me a line on 0418 611 053 (Marg).
