The Western Port Biosphere Foundation is leading an exciting partnership, with local government partners and Deakin University’s Blue Carbon Lab, that will reveal just how much the Western Port UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve region can and could help fight climate change thanks to its wealth of carbon-absorbing marine habitats. This presentation outlines how the initiative is working to establish an evidence-based foundation to inform local community action on climate change across the Western Port Biosphere Reserve – one of Australia’s leading centres for carbon sequestration – and surrounds. In addition to addressing how the Western Port Biosphere Foundation has been the catalyst to achieving regional collaboration to help inform future strategies and more sustainable solutions locally, Glenn explores how the Carbon project knowledge base will enhance global awareness and understanding of blue carbon’s contribution to managing climate via the 700-strong UNESCO Biosphere network.Presenter: Glenn Brooks-MacMillan.Powerpoint slides: Empowering our Community to Tackle Climate Change: The Western Port Biosphere Reserve Foundation’s Blue Carbon Project.#NationalLandcareConference#LandcareConf22
