The Corner Inlet-Nooramunga Broadleaf Seagrass Restoration Project in Victoria brings together commercial fishers and Landcare, in a world-first partnership, to restore 500 acres of broadleaf seagrass over two years. Guided by the local knowledge of Corner Inlet's 18 commercial fishers, the project devised a novel method for securing broadleaf seagrass: the deployment of 500 handmade, hessian sandbag snakes. Successful in restoring Posidonia australis, The Corner Inlet is a prime example of the benefit that comes from engaging local fishers' knowledge to inform better ecological outcomes through the devision of new restoration methodologies.
