Exposure to plants and green space, and particularly to gardening, is beneficial to mental and physical health

The old ambassador hotel, now a residential apartment complex, is one of the options for housing if you cannot afford to buy a house in Melbourne’s growing urban sprawl. As such, the life-gate church has been working with local residents alongside other community organisations, such as a rec-link program providing ongoing opportunities for community members. Many individuals have known personally for a long time that gardening provides substantial human health benefits of which contemporary peer-reviewed scientific papers* seem to support.

A number of residents have taken it upon themselves to work with the small plots of land on site and rejuvenate some of the vegetation. I do believe we need a little help. Five hundred dollars would allow the purchase of some large planter boxes that might be put on wheels to move around what is now a tennis court, dual action community space. It could also mean the investment into a mix of nursery plants to establish a micro community garden with the potential for an onsite compost bin.

This is why it is part of my culture that I am so enthusiastic to promote and try to sustain and work with now and hopefully in the future to come.
