If you have been out in nature recently in Victoria, then you may have seen a Working for Victoria team in action. These workers have been deployed across the state to learn new skills and contribute to integral industries including bush regeneration and natural resource management.

Bellarine Catchment Network have been working alongside a Working for Victoria team at various locations on the Bellarine including Queenscliff, Point Lonsdale, Ocean Grove, Clifton Springs and Leopold. For half of 2020, they have been able to provide invaluable support to our annual program and have been able to complete works that would have otherwise never happened due to Covid-19.

To showcase their amazing efforts, here are some statistics the team has been able to achieve in the past six months:
- 2500 plants installed across 6 sites;
- 3ha of woody weeds removed, primarily Polygala myrtifolia;
- 11 sites managed (installation of fences, litter removal, weed and fuel removal) and;
- .5ha of sensitive grassland restoration including ~6 cubic meters of invasive grassland weeds (Watsonia meriana var. bulbillifera, Briza maxima and Erharta erecta and others).

We have thoroughly enjoyed working with this team and have appreciated their enthusiasm, dedication and willingness to learn.

Working for Victoria is a $500 million State Government funded program that is matching people who have lost their job due to the economic impacts of coronavirus with employers who need staff.
