You are invited to comment on this draft recovery plan in accordance with the provisions of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act).

The draft National Recovery Plan for the Southern Cassowary has been prepared by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, and is proposed to be made under the EPBC Act.

Listed as Endangered under the EPBC Act, the Southern Cassowary has three disjunct populations, across the McHenry Uplands (and previously Lockerbie Scrub) on far northern Cape York Peninsula; the rainforests of the McIlwraith and Iron Ranges further south on Cape York Peninsula; and the Wet Tropics bioregion, from Big Tableland near Cooktown to Paluma near Townsville.

The Draft National Recovery Plan for the Southern Cassowary (Casuarius casuarius johnsonii) sets out the research and management actions necessary to stop the decline, and support the recovery of, the species.
