WALN was pleased to support Environ's Kimberley's Sharing Solutions: Land Management Practices Forum held recently in Broome.
From weed action plans, revegetating the bush after fire/flood and restoring habitat in Broome drains, to making your own biochar, participants came away from the forum feeling more informed and inspired to take local action.
Here were some of the key lessons:
🌱learn your local pioneer species and use them to your advantage to out-compete weeds
🌱 soap wattle (Acacia colei) is a great choice as it's fast growing, provides shade and leaf litter, it's a food source and fixes nitrogen in the soil which weeds don't like
🌱direct seeding can be more successful than planting seedlings
🌱mulch, mulch, mulch
🌱record weeds on iNaturalist
🌱put weeds in the bin
