If I happened to be in the Sydney Botanical Gardens and was looking to see a Powerful Owl there.  Where should I start looking?  Any clues welcomed.

Thanks for the feedback on this question, this is super helpful.  I’m told that they are in the gardens, and was keen to see whether i could find them while in Sydney. Back in Melbourne now, so will consider this challenge again when next up there.

I am not sure whether there have been reported sightings at the botanical gardens. Often sightings are not widely advertised. Powerful Owls like to roost during the day in a tree with a lot of cover. So think dense canopy or vines. They can be surprisingly difficult to see for such a big bird. They are often harassed by Noisy Miners and that can be a giveaway to their location.

They're more common it Sydney's outer suburbs, but there have been sightings in the Botanic Gardens so it's possible. It's often easier to find them through the remains of their prey or splashes of white-wash on the ground rather than by looking in the trees.
