Hi, Landcarer in the Pyrenees in Victoria. Focusing on the creek behind me. Its had a lot of work done to help stabilise the banks. But invasive weeds such as capeweed, rosehip and brambles are starting to take over the banks and edge out the native species. I'm focusing on (slowly!) cutting back new growth and getting ready for dry season to remove at roots. Also using pygmy goats to help work on patches of gorse.

    Hi Fiona!

Your Pyrenees creek restoration project sounds like a long (but very rewarding) process! Do you have any photos of your Pygmy goats working? Such an excellent idea.

Have you joined your favourite communities on Landcarer? I think you would really enjoy the content in Coast & Waterways, Invasive Weeds & Pests, Native Flora & Fauna - as a start! If you have before and after photos of your creek restoration project, I'm sure these communities would love to see it as well! If you wanted to share your progress or what you have learned.

    Cheers
    Emily

    Hello Kirsty!

Welcome to Landcarer! We can't wait to hear your stories and ideas, have you joined any communities of practice to share them in?

if you wanted somewhere to start, these are the ones I would recommend - Farming, Agriculture & Land Management, First Nations Knowledge, Volunteer Recruitment & Group Management , and perhaps even Invasive Weeds & Pests or Native Flora & Fauna.

Can't wait to see what you have to share!

    Cheers

    Hi Sally,

Welcome to Landcarer - it's great to have you!

Being Mental Health Month, I think it would be awesome to hear about some of the work you have been doing with the Wellbeing through Nature program. Guided walks and therapeutic horticulture sound like a dream!

Would love to see a post, perhaps about your latest walk or gardening therapy! Maybe you could post it here, in Collaboration Corner, or in Training & Personal Development?

From your message, it sounds like you also might find enjoyment in the Native Flora & Fauna and Urban Landcare communities of practice. If you join up, it would be great to see you in there!

    Cheers,
    Emily

    Hi All,

I run a small contracting business based out of northern Brisbane but covering the whole of QLD (and the northern half of NSW and west out to Uluru in the NT), we've been doing a couple of small restoration and fire-break related projects and are actively seeking more properties to work with in the coming years.

We can handle everything from scoping, grant creation and submission through to delivery and are qualified in earthworks, regenerative planting, waterways/erosion and off-grid electrical/telecommunications systems amongst many other more niche fields (currently designing an AI thermal camera system to count and monitor turtle populations for example).

We're keen to learn more and help out however/wherever we can :)

        G'day everyone.

My name's Elias and I work as a bush regenerator for Cumberland City Council in South Western Sydney. Our most dominant vegetation community is (you guessed it) the Cumberland Plain. I'm hoping to create events and some other programs that'll get the local community involved. We're a unique LGA in which we are one of the most multicultural community in Australia. So, I want to aim include cultural and religious groups in our programs as well as everyone else of course.

        It's... 🌊 Coastcare Week 🌊

Have you heard? It's happening right here in Landcarer, across our various communities of practice. Each day be sure to visit Coast & Waterways for a new, topical blog post on our marine environments, from Turtle Nesting Season to Microplastic Pollution. After, head over to Coast & Waterways Events for the 35+ events (Australia-wide) encouraging you to get down and dirty for #CoastcareWeek22!

Looking for something to do with the kids? Get them involved in #CoastcareWeek22! With a whole range of online and in-person activities, it's easier than ever to get the kids involved in caring for our environment:

PLUS... Did I mention free beachside yoga and pilates? That's right. Because taking care of our mental health should be our number one priority - and what better way to lift your spirits than by basking in the sun by the ocean or coast?

        Hello Landcarers,

I recently joined your platform from quite far away, in Catalonia (Spain). I am a consultant, currently working on the new 2023-2027 Strategy for the Spanish Land Stewardship Platform in occasion of its 15th anniversary.  The Platform is run by the Spanish Government public Fundación Biodiversidad (Biodiversity Foundation), a public donor organisation with some characteristics of a public conservation agency as well, as it carries out its own conservation projects and framework agreements too.

The Land Stewardship Platform is a permanent program of Fundación Biodiversidad to promote and enlarge nature stewardship activity in Spain. The Platform has a webpage, an open classic email list for discussion, a permanent inventory of land trusts and land stewardship agreements, specialized publications, and organises technical activities from time to time.

So I joined your Landcarer platform as an observer to learn a bit more on how it works. We are also using as a reference the current strategic plan of ALCA, as our Land Stewardship Platform has some similarities to ALCA's lines of action.

If anyone here is interested in knowing more of how land care/stewardship works in Spain please let me know.

        All the best.

Thanks for having me in the community. I'm a research assistant from Deakin University's Blue Carbon Lab. We conduct research to create new carbon credit schemes that will compensate farmers for sustainable management of water bodies on their property.

If this sounds interesting to you and you would like to know more, please feel free to send me a message!

Hi everyone, We are a new 'friends of' group on the Bellarine.  We came about after the community were able to save seven, 80 year old Cyprus trees on our St Leonards foreshore which were to be removed to make way for seasonal boat ramp parking.  Whilst still small, we have experienced landcarer's in our group.  I (Jenny) have worked with Landcare Australia and for a short while with the then DELWP Landcare team, others with the Friends of Edwards Point.  At this stage we are assisting Bellarine Bayside with weeding and planting along the foreshore in St Leonards, but have bigger plans to help protect and enhance other biodiversity spots in St Leonards.  St Leonards is extremely fortunate to have Swan Bay (Ramsar Listed) with Edwards Point (soon hopefully to be Ramsar Listed) on our southern boundary and The Salt Lagoon (also soon to be Ramsar Listed we hope)  on our northern boundary, so like so many other places is pretty special.
